What pressure for your bike tyres?
The right pressure depends mainly on tyre width and your weight. Here are simple starting points.
1. Starting points (75 kg rider)
- Road 25 mm: 6.5 to 7 bar (95 to 100 psi).
- Road 28-32 mm: 5 to 6.5 bar (73 to 95 psi).
- Gravel 40-45 mm: 2.2 to 3 bar (32 to 44 psi).
- MTB 2.3-2.6 inch tubeless: 1.4 to 2 bar (20 to 29 psi).
- City / hybrid 35-47 mm: 3 to 4.5 bar (44 to 65 psi).
Add about 0.1 bar (1.5 psi) for every 5 kg above 75 kg, and run 5 to 10% less at the front.
2. Always respect
- The maximum pressure printed on the tyre sidewall.
- The rim's maximum pressure, often lower for tubeless (for example 5 bar / 73 psi on hookless rims).
3. Tubeless
- Lets you run 0.2 to 0.5 bar (3 to 7 psi) lower with no risk of pinch flats.
- Refresh the sealant every 3 to 6 months: it dries out over time.
4. When to replace the tyre?
- Wear indicators gone or a tread that has worn flat.
- Deep cuts, visible casing threads or a bulge on the sidewall.
Track it automatically
MonSuiviVélo tracks the mileage of each tyre, reminds you to refresh your tubeless sealant and warns you when wear is getting close.
